Herb guide › Evening Primrose Seed
Evening Primrose Seed
Seeds of Oenothera biennis contain gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), although the oil is a more practical source than a water infusion. Seeds have a mild, nutty character.
Traditionally used for
Fatty-acid support
Potential benefits
Traditional nutritional fatty-acid support; traditional skin and women's wellness interest.
Ingredients
Evening Primrose Seed (Oenothera biennis)
Origin
North America
How it is traditionally prepared
Food-style use preferred. For tea, 1 tsp lightly crushed seed per 8 oz hot water; steep 10–15 min, occasionally.
Cautions and who should avoid it
Tea does not reliably extract the seed's oil; use of seed as a beverage is therefore not equivalent to evening primrose oil. May interact with anticoagulants or seizure medications.
Get tea recommendations for how you feel, and keep a journal of what works for you.
